Shanghai, June 12, 2024 — The "Health Starts with Breathing" charity event was successfully held in Shanghai. This event focused on providing professional aromatherapy breathing training for volunteers involved in elderly care management, particularly those in the Shanghai Dementia Care Volunteer Training Camp. The aim was to enhance their professional skills and service quality in dementia care.
Kathy Wang Qian(王倩), a senior lecturer at the International Inhalation Aromatherapy Association, the IAK China Director, and member of International Breathwork Academy, was invited as the keynote speaker. She brought her extensive experience and profound expertise to the training, providing detailed explanations and demonstrations. Wang Qian introduced the application of breathing therapy and the use of the IBF International Breathwork Foundation's free breathing App. She also showcased the AromaStick nasal inhalers from Switzerland, which are designed for therapeutic breathing. These nasal inhalers combine various natural essential oils to effectively alleviate anxiety and stress, thereby improving the quality of life for people.
The event was co-organized by the Shanghai Health Science and Technology Association, the Shanghai Volunteer Service Public Welfare Foundation, and the Shanghai Pudong Elderly Care Development Institute. The training session was held on June 12, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Nanmatou Community Service Center, Pudong district, Shanghai. The training targeted personnel, including elderly care institution managers, professional dementia caregivers, dementia-friendly community participants, and dementia care social workers and volunteers, with a class limit of 40 people.
Through this training, participants learned various breathing therapy methods and how to apply them in daily care to improve the lives of themselves and dementia patients. Wang Qian emphasized that breathing therapy can effectively relieve people' anxiety and stress, thereby enhancing the overall care effect.
The goal of this event was to establish and promote a talent pool for dementia care volunteers in Shanghai through professional training, fostering the scientific professionalism of dementia care volunteer services. The support from multiple institutions, including the Shanghai Health Science and Technology Association, the Shanghai Volunteer Service Public Welfare Foundation, the Shanghai Pudong Elderly Care Development Institute, and the Social Work Department of Fudan University Affiliated Huashan Hospital, ensured the smooth conduct and success of this event.
We hope that through similar charity activities, a culture of filial piety and respect for the elderly can be established and improved. By promoting the integration of institutional, community, and home-based elderly care services, IAK aims to contribute more to the elderly care industry in Shanghai.
